Vryheid Cricket Club – Wasps wiped out by Mr X massacre

TWO Kingsmead Mynahs League 30 over matches were played last weekend.

On Saturday Wicket Wasps won the toss in Dumbe and elected to bat first. On a good batting pitch they managed to score a good 223 all out in the 30th over. Top scoring for them were Juan Booyens (46) and Andrew Brooks (38). Taking the most wickets for Dumbe were Juan Freyer (6-1-38-4) and Leon Solms (6-0-35-3).

Dumbe’s top order were impressive with the top four each scoring over 40 and were looking set to win the game at 171/3. But as it so often happens in cricket, Dumbe suffered a middle order collapse and found themselves at 203/9 after their allotted 30 overs. Top scoring for them were Loubser Theron (47) and Leon Solms (42). Wicket Wasps best bowlers were PJ Du Toit (5-0-38-3) and Andrew Brooks (5-0-31-2). Wicket Wasps won by 20 runs.

On Sunday, at Cecil Emmett, Mr X batted first against Wicket Wasps and scored 178 all out in the 29th over. David Sandalls (27) and Duvan Grobelaar (22) were the main contributors with the bat. Best bowling for Wicket Wasps came from Triztian Nel (6-0-31-3) and Andrew Brooks (5-0-34-2). In attempting to chase down the target, Wicket Wasps were all dismissed for 154 in the 26th over, with only Andrew Brooks (23) and Tiaan Naudè (20) managing to score 20 or more. Taking the most wickets for Mr X were David Sandalls (5-0-35-3) and Gavin Bosman (6-0-23-2). Mr X won by 25 runs.

Social 8-a-side league: Vryheid Cricket Club is planning to start a business/social league with the emphasis being on social. The idea is to get families and businesses out into the open for some fresh air. Anyone of any age is welcome regardless of cricketing skills. Extra bonus points will be given for every girl in a team, so an all girl team could end up winning the competition. Full media coverage will be given, so it is a good opportunity to get your business’ name out there.

Matches will be played on Saturday afternoons starting at 1pm. Each team will consist of eight players and an innings will be 15 overs long with every player bowling. Club players will be limited in each team and teams will be able to purchase club players on an auction basis.

The cost to enter a team will be R400.00 for the entire league. This, however, excludes the balls used. Kit will be available at the club for anyone that needs.

For any further enquiries or to book your spot please contact Dean Aitken on 082 766 4001.

A meeting with the teams is scheduled for Tuesday, February 2, starting at 6:15pm at the Vryheid Cricket Club’s clubhouse at Cecil Emmett Park.
