Preview: Armed robbers make off with millions from Fidelity depot

Fidelity Group CEO, Wahl Bartmann, cautions the community to stay alert, particularly as we move towards the festive season where heists of this nature typically spike even further.

EIGHT to ten heavily armed men overpowered Fidelity guards at the Vryheid depot last Friday night, making off with millions in cash.

While Fidelity has not confirmed the figure, sources indicated that the amount stolen exceeds R8million.

Local Fidelity staff would not speak to the press, saying that the investigations were at a very sensitive stage, Fidelity Group CEO, Wahl Bartmann, confirmed that armed suspects had gained access to the Fidelity Vryheid depot last Friday at approximately 10pm.

“The criminals arrived at the Vryheid depot in vehicles and managed to overpower the Fidelity guards, getting away with millions of rand in cash,” said Mr Bartmann.

Fidelity is working closely with law enforcement in the area to track any leads and encourages anyone with any information to call their local Fidelity Vryheid office on 034 983 2133.
