Pupils bear nauseating toilets at Nkongolwane Primary

THE PAST few months have seen things being really messy at Nkongolwane Public Primary School in Hlobane, as the toilets in the school are out of order.

Parents, who were hoping that the issue would be sorted out during the short holiday break that schools had in the first week of October, were met with great disappointment when their children returned to similar unhygienic conditions after the holidays.

According to one parent, who requested to remain anonymous for the sake of his child, many children have had to be sent home due to the lack of toilet facilities in the school.

“The conditions are extremely unhygienic and it is only a matter of time before our children contract diseases from the gross conditions of these toilets,” said this parent.

The schools deputy principal, Mr VE Ndwandwe, admitted that the school has been having water issues, which have resulted in the school’s toilet system being blocked. He did, however, say that at least one or two toilets were still working.

“We currently have municipal trucks bringing in water for the children to flush with, as there seems to be a plumbing issue. A borehole was allocated for the school but it is currently not functioning,” said Mr Ndwandwe.

In conclusion, Mr Ndwandwe said that the school would be looking into alternatives such as pitted toilets or hired toilets to aid the situation.
