Community Services Department helps learners apply for NSFAS bursaries

LOCAL young people who would like to further their studies through tertiary institutions are encouraged to visit the AbaQulusi Municipality’s Community Services Department.

The department is currently assisting young people to fill in their NSFAS bursary applications.

According to Cllr Qedi Radebe, the initiative was started after it was established that a lot of NSFAS applications do not even get to the relevant people due to them being filled in incorrectly.

The project is being lead by Busisiwe Mkhonza, who said that it is important for young people to visit the Department to find more information about this initiative.

“Some people are uncertain as to whether or not they qualify for an NSFAS bursary. For example, it is not only someone who comes from an awfully poor home, who qualifies. In some instances a person could be coming from a home where there are four children all in school and they are all dependent on a single parent earning a minimum income. Such people also qualify for bursaries,” said Busisiwe.

The community services department will also be visiting various high schools to help the learners with their higher education and NSFAS applications.
