Mondlo serial rapist gets five 25-year sentences

WOMEN in the Mondlo area may rest a little easier with the area’s serial rapist, Elvis Mthethwa, having been handed five 25-year imprisonment sentence.

Mthethwa is believed to have targeted homes where women lived alone or with their children in the Mondlo area. He would break into the homes and threaten his victims using either a knife or a firearm.

According to the Mondlo SAPS, five cases were reported to them and transferred to Vryheid Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit for investigation.

Mthethwa was linked to the crimes through DNA sample comparisons. Five victims identified him as the man who had raped them when an identification parade was conducted.

One of his victims, a 15-year old, is said to have been 7 months pregnant when Mthethwa raped her.

The Madadeni High Court convicted and sentenced him to five 25 year senences running concurrently for each rape.
