“THIS festive season, we are out in full force and criminals are going to find it hard to evade arrest,” is the stern warning from KwaZulu Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa.

This comes in the wake of an incident that took place last Saturday afternoon where a man, allegedly accused of stealing livestock, miraculously escaped injury after being fired upon by a group of seven armed assailants at his home in Vryheid.

After the suspects fled the scene, a case of attempted murder was opened at Vryheid Police Station for further investigation and a description of the vehicles was circulated to other officers on duty.

Two vehicles were later intercepted at the Nkwalini T-junction by members of Eshowe SAPS, assisted by the Ulundi Public Order Police and a total of seven suspects were arrested in connection with the earlier attack on the victim, following a search which revealed four licensed firearms, according to the police report, as well as several cellphones, knives and other unnamed items. The arrested suspects, two of whom are police officers, were scheduled to appear at Vryheid Magistrate’s Court on charges of attempted murder.
