High Street bridge repairs unrelated to project

The bridge is still not in a usable condition, proceed with caution.

THE state of the High Street bridge came under the spotlight in recent weeks when residents in the area reported the unsightly condition and the foul stench that was emanating from a massive gaping hole on the north side of the bridge.

Ward 9 Councillor, Alta de Kock, arrived at the scene while we were there and reported that the matter was under discussion and that former councillor, Harry Heyns, was in the process of getting investors on board to finance the project. A recent visit to the north side of High Street bridge revealed that the massive hole had been mostly filled and most of the jungle of plants and weeds removed.

According to Cllr De Kock, this was done following the repair to a burst pipe which had left the industrial area without water recently and is unrelated to the repair project.

The north side of High Street bridge shows some improvement, but this is not related to the repair project being initiated by former councillor, Harry Heyns.

Cllr De Kock added that, following a meeting last week, a letter had been prepared by the AbaQulusi CFO giving Mr Heyns the go ahead to approach investors to come on board with the repair project.
