Vryheid Landbou learner celebrated as a TV star

Sbo Ngubane enters the school with our Principal, Mrs A van Niekerk.

On March 19, the one and only Sbo Ngubane paid us a visit at the school. Sbo was a learner, a TIT, our choir mistress, the hockey coach and was involved with Land Service and the SCA. She wrote drama and poetry and inspired learners to read. Currently, Sbo is one of the finalists in the SABC programme, ‘One Day Leader’. She came with a film crew to show them where it all started.

Everything worked together… The ossies, the horses, the sheep, the choir, the learners, the staff, the groundsmen, the cleaners, and the hostel to create one day of wonder, coming together as a family, welcoming back a phenomenal woman, Sbo, because she embodies the spirit of Landbou, which makes us extremely humble and proud at the same time.

It was such a precious and sacred moment when the choir sang, and our horses carried our flag, with the steers coming out to participate in this event and the sheep peacefully grazing on the hockey field.

It was a day we will not easily forget. In her speech to the learners, she told them to never count themselves out and told them it’s important that they exist.

It was a Monday filled with great song and great inspiration.

Farm Fun

This week, on the farm, the learners started training the young calves. The first day of training was absolutely funny as neither the learner nor the calves were ready, but by day two we made some progress, and some of the learners managed to get the calves to sit on their laps.

This is a new project at Landbou that we are very excited about and look forward to seeing where the learners will take this project.

Life at Landbou

Life at Landbou is just incredible, and now that the season is changing, the valley is once again clothed in the softer colours of autumn. We thank God for the wonderful rain and pray for Cape Town and all the other places in South Africa which are desperate for rain.

Sbo says about Landbou, “So much of who I am today, so much of what makes me proud to be the woman in my mirror is because I was once a scholar at Vryheid Landbou High School.” We are also proud of you, Sbo, the Butterfly Star!
