Vryheid plagued by pipe bursts

The recent spate of burst pipes in town are clearly an indication of aging infrastructure that is crumbling?
Yesterday, local water and sanitation manager, Nathi Mbongwa, sent out a message to the councillor of Ward 8, Magda Viktor, alerting her that a burst pipe in Utrecht Street would affect a few areas.

Mr Mbongwa said that his department was struggling with three breakdowns in the town’s reticulation system and that a few areas in town had been affected.

Two houses in Deputation were also met with the same issue of random pipe bursts last week, this too is suspected to have something to do with the struggling system.

Mr Mbongwa has also informed Cllr Viktor that his department is currently doing all they can to rectify the situation and members of the public will be informed about how they are progressing.

While the immediate issue was dealt with yesterday, and water supply restored, residents should always be prepared for future intermittent water disruptions as the aging infrastructure battles to withstand an ever increasing demand.
